FAQ

Do I need a referral?

No referral needed. simply contact us and get started.

How does it work?

We start with a 1-hour initial consultation, where we meet with your child. During this time, we gather information about your child and complete a screening and/or assessment of your child’s communication skills. Assessments may include informal and formal evaluations. At the end of the consultation, results and recommendations will be shared. A report that summarizes findings can be written, if requested by the family.

How often will my child need speech therapy?

The frequency and length of sessions are determined after the initial consultation when the speech-language pathologist has a better idea of your child’s needs. We know that families are busy, so we strive to work with you to figure out a schedule that fits for you and your child. On average, our clients attend speech therapy once a week or once every two weeks.

Do I need to attend sessions with my child?

This depends on the age and areas of concern and will be discussed with families at the end of the initial consultation. Parents are more than welcome to join and participate in the sessions. However, if a parent chooses not to attend, we ensure parents are informed of how the session went and share simple activities that can be done at home to support the child’s progress.

Does extended health cover speech therapy?

Most extended health companies offer coverage for speech therapy. The amounts vary per company, so it’s best to check with your specific provider. We are also able to bill Autism Funding Unit, the At-home Program, Variety Charity, CKNW and President’s Choice.

Do you bill extended health companies directly?

At this time, we do not. Parents pay with cash or e-transfer, and we provide an invoice that can be submitted to your insurance provider.
